    Description and essential duties

    Under general supervision, the Special Collections Librarian (Librarian II) performs professional librarian duties and functions as a first assistant at the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection of Afro-American History and Literature at the Chicago Public Library’s Carter G. Woodson Regional Branch as part of the Archives and Special Collections (ASC) Division.

    To provide CPL users with a dynamic research experience focused on the rich cultural and historical experiences of Black Americans in the region, the Special Collections Librarian will show a dedicated commitment to public service that includes but is not limited to performing reference in an archive setting, coordinating programs, archival description, and donor relations. Candidate has strong organizational skills, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work creatively, collegially, and effectively as part of a team or independently. Special Collections Librarian will also oversee duties related to collections management, digitization, monitoring of facilities for preservation issues, deaccessioning of materials, and community partnerships. Demonstrated proficiency with library and/or archives management systems such as ContentDM and Archives Space. Knowledge of EAD, DACS, MARC and other metadata standards. Familiarity with digital formats and issues related to born-digital content. Working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other software. Maintain professional development through participation at local, state, or national level. Perform related duties as required.

    Minimum qualifications

    Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation plus one year of professional library experience.

    Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

     ·         Master’s degree in: Archival Studies, or a Master’s degree in Public History, or a GLAM-related (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) Master’s degree.

    ·         Knowledge of EAD, DACS, and/or other metadata standards.

    ·         Work and/or volunteer experience working with African American collections/exhibits in a gallery, archives, and or library and/or museum setting.

    Job Description:

    Reporting to the Special Collections Librarian for Public Services, the Assistant Reference Archivist will provide reference service to our diverse community, support researchers in accessing and utilizing the unique archival and special collections materials, and actively engage in informal instruction opportunities. They will address a wide range of research requests, offer guidance on navigating digital and print resources, and provide in-person and virtual reference services. Assisting with providing access to our materials, the Assistant Reference Archivist will also process, describe, and accession archival and manuscript collections.

    While scholarship and external service are not required by unit norms, instructors are encouraged to be professionally active and are allocated professional development funds.

    Associate Library Director, Access Services, Art Institute of Chicago

    Salary range: $57,000-92,000

    Job description:

    Reporting to the Director and working closely with the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries team, the Associate Director, Access Services, is responsible for managing electronic resources for the library and providing a diverse group of patrons with reference, instruction, and interlibrary loan services in a fast-paced, public-service oriented environment. This role manages the Libraries’ Access Services staff, participates in collection development and curatorial department outreach, and manages offsite storage, including selecting material and managing the logistics of transportation. The position serves as an active member of the Library leadership team in the creation of reading room and circulation policies and procedures.

    Requirements:

    At least two years of experience with electronic resources management and reference service is required. Library instruction experience strongly preferred
    - Knowledge of cataloging rules, standards, and tools; cataloging experience with electronic resources
    - A thorough understanding of issues related to electronic resources, including vendors, packages, aggregators, platforms, licensing, pricing models, and financial and statistical management
    - Excellent oral and written communication skills
    - Ability to work collaboratively with staff from all areas of the library and museum

    Education and experience:

    MLS from an ALA accredited program required. Educational background in Art History desirable. At least two years of supervisory experience
